Did you know…
Approximately 100 million sharks are killed each year by humans for their fins.
Shark Finning is the act of removing a shark’s dorsal fin for its monetary value. Ever hear of “Shark Fin Soup”?
Often times, the sharks are still alive as their fins are cut off before being tossed back into the ocean, where they can no longer swim effectively. Sharks will then sink to the bottom of the ocean and be eaten by other predators, or die of suffocation, since they need to be constantly swimming to breathe.
We know this is deep stuff..and to make matters worse..
Shark maturity and reproduction is a slow process, and with so many sharks being eliminated each year, many shark populations are at risk of endangerment.
Upsetting, we know. But it’s a lot bigger than this…
Sharks are an apex predator, which means they are at the top of the food chain. They are an important part of the cycle of life in our oceans, keeping other populations in check. The entire ecosystem is at risk.
So, what are we doing about it?
We know clothes, and to be honest, we’re pretty obsessed with sharks. With the creation of Shark Thredz™, we aim to contribute to the efforts to raise awareness and conserve marine life in our oceans. Our comfortable, high-quality clothing is suitable for everyday wear.
And let’s face it, it looks jaw-some, too.
A portion of every purchase goes to these causes. And with your help, we won’t only put an end to shark finning, we can work towards a balanced ecosystem and a healthier planet.
Updates!
Due to our overwhelming multi-international brand support, Shark Thredz™ is proud to announce its sponsorship in university academics with student research in the study of sharks, in addition to our support of local private and government research affiliates.
